Friday Photo Quiz #112

Quiz112

The prayer flags at the entrance to this village must be a clue. But they may not help much, since this place doesn't exactly look to be tucked up in the  Himalayas. Hmmm. So we have a tough one.

Can you name the country? Oh go ahead, take a guess.

The answer is after the jump. And a good weekend from Common Sense and Whiskey and EarthPhotos.com.

And the answer is ……………………………………………………………….. it's Russia. There's a famous Bhuddist monastery, the Ivolginsky Monastery at Datsan, which nowadays is the center of  Buddhism in the Russian Federation. It's near Ulan Ude, capital of the Russian Autonomous Republic of Buryatia, which is east of Lake Baikal and north of Mongolia in Siberia. This village is on the ride south of the capital to the Mongolian border.

See photos of Ulan Ude and Ivolginsky Monastery in the Russia Gallery at EarthPhotos.com, and also in the Lake Baikal chapter of A Common Sense and Whiskey Companion.

And take all the CS&W photo quizzes.
