“On May 15, a demolition crew went to work on the charred wreckage of the “Winter Cherry” shopping center in Kemerovo, where 60 people (including 40 children) died in a fire on March 25. Following this tragedy, Russian fire safety officials launched unplanned inspections of shopping malls across the country. By early May, the authorities had shut down nearly a third of all the shopping centers in Russia, finding widespread noncompliance with federal fire safety standards.”

Hi Bill. Hope you’re well. I’ve noticed over recent history the number of negative news stories creeping into western media reports just when the Russians are supposedly guilty of various acts…I find it makes me question everything I’ve read because part of me wonders just how much of it is really true or indeed any different to anything in any other country…I have a feeling that we are being fed these things to make us think less of Russia as a nation. It’s interesting times though for sure.

You know though, this story comes from Meduza, a media outfit made up mostly of Russians who fled to Riga, Latvia because they felt harassed practicing journalism in their own country. Hi Bill. I noticed the Meduza name and figured it could be from that region so that is something. I don’t suppose any of us can really appreciate what it’s like to live in a country where some of the rights we are used to are denied. But that said, I think my point still stands (I wasn’t being critical of you, please note, for passing it on) in that you have to take everything you read with a pinch of salt because you can never be totally sure of the motives of those who write it…probably mostly true of Wikipedia…😄
