In the UK, the Conservative and Unionist Party’s Home Secretary Priti Patel, whose parents emigrated to the UK in the 1960s, vows “to end the free movement of people once and for all” as she outlines hardline immigration policy at Conservative party conference:
Priti’s parents, it’s worth noting, came to Britain from Uganda after having been expelled by Idi Amin; so it can be claimed that she’s the daughter of refugees and she wants to close doors to immigrants. Ironically she’a trying to close doors to European immigrants who normally have good education, carry little burden to the social services and cover lots of jobs that are in demand. But hey, who said you needed brains to be a minister?!
