Ten Friday Photos from Sydney, Australia

Sydney ranks on pretty much everybody’s Top Five Cities list and you can see why in this quick little photo tour.

Luna Park in North Sydney at dusk. That’s the Harbour Bridge in the foreground.

sydney03

Here is sunset from Watson’s Bay, just outside town. There’s an old hotel there that has now labeled itself “boutique.” It’s not very big and it gets loud at night on weekends, but you can’t beat the fine view from the back terrace.

Friday Photos #49 – Funny Signs

Let’s count ’em down, shall we?
At #7, these guys want your business. Right damned now. Pub in Dublin, Ireland.
7

At #6, it’s not that it’s funny really, just that it’s entirely incomprehensible advertising. Billboard in Sanya, Hainan Island, China. Shoe shop?

Whatever.

6

At #5, the entrance to Luna Park, an amusement park at Milson’s Point in Sydney, Australia.

5

Here’s #4, the men’s room at the Hotel Føroyar, Torshavn, Faroe Islands. At least I guess that’s what it is. I wasn’t going in there.

4

#3: Bless you. Rail stop in Poland. Town too, I guess.

3

#2. I bet. Sign in Hanoi, Vietnam.

2

And the number 1 all time best sign ever, anywhere, sign in the world, from Bangkok, welcome to Miss Puke!

Here are some more interesting signs. And all the other Friday Photos. Have a good weekend, everybody.

Friday Photos #48 – Cappadocia Outdoors

Cappadocia is an area in central Turkey southeast of Ankara known, as you can see, for its remarkable geology. These landforms are the product of volcanism, with the various “fairy chimneys” formed from tuff, which is hardened volcanic ash. Cappadocia is a must-visit.

Friday Photo #47. Got Losk?

fridayphoto

From a shop in Listvyanka, Siberia on the shores of Lake Baikal. The story of our trip along the Trans-Siberian Railroad from Ekaterinburg, in the Ural mountains, to Irkutsk near Lake Baikal is in my first book, Common Sense and Whiskey (which would make a fine Christmas gift). You can read that chapter right here on this blog. For more photos from Russia see the Russia Gallery at EarthPhotos.com, and here are all the Friday Photos.
